Discovery Project

Cardiff

Main information

Type of service: Befriending/mentoring

The Discovery Project is a mentoring project organised by Cardiff University for young people with autism between the ages of 14 and 19. The project aims to encourage young people to aspire to attend University, not just Cardiff. Each young person will be in a small group of other young people, with a current Cardiff University student to mentor the group. Sessions will be a mixture of social activities and information workshops. All sessions have the same aims, to boost confidence to:.

  • help should the young person apply to university.
  • deal with settling into university should the young person attend.

We also hope that our sessions will help develop skills that are useful for day to day lives. Those on the project will also be invited to attend a free summer school at the university. .

The service is specifically for young people with ASD, but we also provide support to parents / grandparents / carers. .
