Main information

Type of service: Assessment, Interventions and therapies

I offer adult autism diagnosis (Multi-professional ADOS-2 and ADI-R) including a clinical and psychological assessment.

I also provide adapted evidence based therapies (primarily CBT) for mental health difficulties associated with Autism. I use National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines adapted interventions which I have been developing at the Maudsley Hospital for the last 10 years..

Using an integrative approach, I collaborate with clients to produce a coherent, joint understanding of a person's difficulties that takes into account the following factors:.

Presenting difficulty description, - creating a clear, agreed-upon outline of the problem:.

Predisposing factors that contributed to the problem (e.g. a genetic predisposition such as autism).

Precipitating factors in terms of events that are close in time to the development of the problem (e.g. childhood development navigating the social world).

Perpetuating factors are those aspects of a problem that help to maintain it (e.g. allowing others to help in a way that disables, rather than enables the person with the problem).

Protective factors refers to positive attributes of the person that can be utilised to help with their difficulties (e.g. a sense of humour, abilities and skills). This collaboratively developed understanding, in turn, informs the subsequent therapeutic work that takes place..

.

Therapy can be focussed, time-limited with identified appropriate goals. Or it can be more explorative, open-ended and less goal-focussed..
