Type of service: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Diagnostic services

Specialist mental health services to children, young people and their families. The usual age range is for young people up to 18 years of age. CAMHS offers a range of therapeutic services including direct and indirect clinical work through consultation and training. The direct therapeutic work offered includes family therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling, psychotherapy, group work, play therapy, neuropsychological assessments and behavioural clinics. There are six locality teams staffed by multi disciplinary teams, including child psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, primary mental health workers and administrators. Transitions Service for young people 16 years up to 18 years of age has two teams; one covering North Derwentside, Durham and Chester-le-Street and the other covering Easington, Darlington, Sedgefield and the Dales.
