Main information

Type of service: Interventions and therapies

What is the Elijah Centre? PROSCIG Early intervention is very important, the main vision and mission of the Elijah Centre for social and communication skills, is to provide intervention for all areas of social emotional development from the early stages of life. It is necessary for a child to develop his or her full potential, regardless of the challenges they have been presented with.

With the PROSCIG© intervention program, we are able to utilise the brain's natural plasticity to engage the children in learning these skills through a tailored and holistic approach; allowing them to build the foundation skills, be it social emotional development, cognitive development or motor development, that will allow them to better integrate into society, and fulfil their potentials. .

PROSCIG© at the Elijah centre is a pioneer in the UK of educational, clinical social skills intervention. The Early Intervention groups, designed around the needs of younger children (between 2 and 6 years old) with social and communication difficulties, implements a variety of treatments including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy. .

PROSCIG© after early intervention. These sessions take place in the afternoon at the Elijah Centre, Wednesday to Friday afternoons. For children aged 6-9 years old, small groups of 3-5 children learning together and putting into practice social skills, conversation skills, executive function, social thinking and self-control. For children aged 10-17 years, working and cultivating skills for complex social problem solving, transition from primary to secondary school, teaching reciprocity in relationships, and taking on social responsibilities. .

Assessments used. Following initial contact with the Elijah centre, we implement a number of assessments to gauge children's social and cognitive skills in order to best determine the most appropriate intervention approach. We would follow up with an assessment. The initial assessment often occur in two parts: one with the parent(s) which will last approximately 1 hour; the other with the child, lasting between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes. Following the initial assessment, a PROSCIG© assessment based on the fifteen steps of PROSCIG© is applied. We also consider previous reports from schools and other professional bodies that have engaged with the child as part of the initial assessment. .
