The Elm Tree Farm site is made up of 3 employment training projects that provide vocational training and supported employment for people with learning disabilities and autism. Elm Tree Farm is based on a 35 acre site and provides vocational training through a range of horticulture actvities and animal husbandry. The farm has a variety of livestock including hens, ducks, geese, goats horses, pigs and cows all of which require essential daily care. Produce is sold at the local farmers market which also enables people to develop their retail skills. The Nursery enables people to develop their work, employment and personal skills though a wide range of horticultural activities. It also enables people to work as part of a team and develop those transferable work skills such as time keeping, following instruction, customer service and independence. Splinters provides a unique opportunity in employment training. The team designs and makes a variety of products and furniture that are then sold in the community. The work shop is well equiped with modern machinery and enables trainees to learn a variety of practical skills. All of the above employment training projects provide the trainees to work through our outcome based in house work -skills development and employment training programme as well as the opportunty of gaining vocational qualifications equivalent to the an NVQ. When ready, trainees then have the opportunity to work with our employment officer who will arrange work experience, help them complete a CV or vocational profile, support them to get help around benefits and to apply for a paid job. Volunteers are accepted but they must be CRB checked and have in house training.
