Main information

Type of service: Interventions and therapies

EquATA (Equine Assisted Therapy Association) is a not-for-profit organisation specialising in horse assisted mental health therapy. EquATA's objectives are to provide accessible treatment for emotional and mental health related conditions; to preserve and promote mental wellbeing; and to facilitate beneficial personal development with experiential learning through facilitating interactions with sensitive specially selected horses. The team consists of a mental health expert, an equine specialist and six equines. The Team now offers sessions especially for children and adults with autism, as well as their families. Two people are certified in the Horse Boy Method ™ developed by Rupert Isaacson where the child or adult with autism is accompanied in the saddle. Sessions last an hour and are centred around the person with autism's needs - if they do not want to ride they do not have to. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy has a proven track record in the United States of America (USA), and is run here in the United Kingdom (UK) by EquATA, on a private estate within the beautiful countryside village of Grafton Underwood in Northamptonshire, in accordance with Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) code of ethical conduct. Sessions are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am until 2pm winter months and 10am until 5pm through spring and summer months..
