Halifax

Main information

Type of service: Play and leisure

Helping Hands is a range of free services that help children with disabilities and their whole family to come along and enjoy a day at the Eureka! museum whilst reducing the stresses and strains that a family day out can entail. Our bookable Extra Pair of Hands service provides families with a specially trained enabler to support them throughout their visit. The service will be available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturday afternoons and Sundays throughout the year. The service is free with an annual pass, and each family is entitled to two supported visits (each visit lasting two hours) per year. The service must be booked at least two weeks in advance of your visit. We run regular Helping Hands clubs, free for disabled children and their families. Sessions run from 10am-12pm and are suitable for children aged 3-11 years. Clubs run from 10am-12pm and include fun craft and games activities with trained members of the Eureka! team, followed by a supported to visit to a different area of the museum each week. Some sessions are specifically for children on the autism spectrum. Eureka! are inclusive of children with disabilities. We run free Sunday and holiday clubs (including a free annual pass), plus for children with autism, we have ear defenders and a chill out room. Most of our front house team are trained in autism awareness and all are trained in disability awareness. They also have an Extra Pair of Hands service, whereby families can book a trained member of the team to support their visit. They would need to call before hand, talk through their child's likes, dislikes and triggers, and then their visit will be tailored to the needs of their child. This team member will then accompany the family on the day for two hours. This service is completely free.
