Gartmore Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) was founded in 1985 and has been a registered charity for over a decade. It is also approved by the British Horse Society, Accredited Sports Club, Association of British Riding School with a Principal Diploma and has signed up to the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) Deaf Friendly Leisure Activities pledge. Gartmore Riding School provides children and adults with any disability from Staffordshire and surrounding areas, the opportunity to visit a Riding School to promote their health and well-being. Staff, instructors and volunteers have attended various funded workshops/lectures/demonstrations and training sessions which have included equity in coaching/inclusive coaching for the disabled/how to teach disabled people in sport/autism and sensory issues and many more to improve their knowledge of supporting people with disabilities. Along with Queens College, Birmingham, they are now including coaching for the visually impaired. All Volunteers have to have an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check to join the Gartmore Riding School group. This is dealt with by the Riding for the Disabled Association headquarters with an £8 charge. Gartmore can cater for people with challenging behaviour provided that they have a support worker with them..
