Type of service: Day schools, Schools

The name of the unit for pupils with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is Rainbow. Rainbow is a separate base within a mainstream school. The base opened in September 2007 and moved into their new building in 2009. It currently has eight classes, providing 48 places for children aged 4-11 years. There are 2 speech therapists, an occupational therapist and music and drama therapists working at the base. Being attached to mainstream creates opportunities for inclusion within mainstream and for reverse integration within the base. There is no expectation for inclusion but always the opportunity.
