Hill Top School caters for pupils with a variety of special needs, including those on the autism spectrum disorder (ASD). All pupils receive their full curriculum entitlement. Currently there are around 20-25 pupils diagnosed with differing degrees of autism. Of this number most are in the Autism Centre and several are in the main part of the school. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils with police clearance. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework.
