Main information

Type of service: Further & Higher Education, Schools

The Centre for Learning at Ardenleigh aims to provide a highly individualised curriculum which reflects the diverse abilities, educational histories and learning support needs of the young people who attend, including those specific to individual deficits identified through an ASC diagnosis or assessment. The Centre offers a range of different accreditation options in each subject area, including options which allow flexibility in learning activities and enable young people such as those with autistic features to develop a special interest (e.g. ASDAN/COPE, Project Awards). Young people are taught in small groups up to a maximum of 3 learners. The groups are arranged based on the risk profiles of the young people and their impacts on each other's learning and progress and would take account of their autism features. Pupils come on to the Centre's roll when they are admitted to the Ardenleigh Forensic CAMHS Medium Secure Unit. Beds are commissioned through a national network and therefore young people can come to the Centre from anywhere in the UK, though commissioners tend to preferentially place young people as close to home as possible.
