As part of Lawrence & Co solicitors, the firm provides legal representation to young people (usually under 18 but exceptionally under 21). Its area of legal expertise is within the criminal justice system, including anti-social behaviour orders, but there are other solicitors with specialism in immigration, personal injury, family matters. Clients are also referred to relevant legal services that are not provided in-house such as civil actions against the police. Just for Kids Law provides advice, advocacy and assistance to young people in whatever area they need assistance; education, housing, acceptable behaviour contracts. Because of the nature of the work, the firm works closely with young people with learning difficulties, emotional behavioural difficulties and more severe mental health problems. It specialises in representing children with these difficulties and litigating for their level of understanding within the criminal justice system. The leading case in this country on effective participation was brought by the firm. It has experience of working with young people who have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Just for Kids Law provides advocacy, support and assistance to young people in difficulty; particularly those in trouble with the law, looked after children and those at risk of exclusion from school.
