Kersland is primarily a school for pupils with severe learning difficulties and additional barriers to learning. Pupils range in age from 5-19 years and are grouped by age. Pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are in class groups with their peers. We use Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children (TEACCH) and a range of approaches which support pupils with ASD. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework. Volunteers to work with the pupils may be accepted.
