Kilgarth School is a non-denominational secondary special school for boys who are experiencing behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. All pupils, including those on the autism spectrum, are educated in small, mixed groups with high levels of staff support. We have high expectations that empower pupils to make good progress academically, vocationally, morally and socially and we also focus on their place in the community to encourage their development into active and responsible members of society. We offer opportunities for pupils to contribute to school life through regular discussion, school council and fundraising, often for charities suggested by the boys themselves. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework. Interventions, approaches and programmes catered for by the school are: anger management, social skills groups and speech and language therapy.
