Autism Service Directory

Lambeth College

Clapham Common

Main information

Type of service: Further & Higher Education

Students with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are either on discrete courses for students with disabilities or on mainstream courses with additional learning support. The discrete courses are in small groups (6-10) and as well as the tutor, there is at least one Learning Assistant (LA) per group, although more may be allocated on a needs led basis, depending on the group. Learning assistants are also available during lunch and break times to give support where necessary. Students on mainstream courses (and students with specific learning difficulties like ASD on discrete Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LDD) courses) are given support through the additional learning support service, which will include support throughout enrolment and induction, and an allocation of weekly 1:1 hours which will be allocated following an assessment of need. The teaching teams will also be given training in ASD awareness and support in designing a suitable college learning environment. There is also an ASD workshop where students with ASD are supported to develop social skills to enable them to participate more fully in the College learning environment. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the students. The College accepts people from all applicants legally allowed to study in the United Kingdom (UK).
