Landgate School opened in September 2003 in response to the needs of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) within Wigan Metropolitan Borough. The school is registered for up to 60 learners /students aged between 4-16 years and operates as a day school. Courses and training is now provided on a needs basis. Staffing ratio is variable depending on the needs of individuals. The school has a leading aspects award for communication provision. There is a strong parent support group who welcome parents of learners attending other schools. There is also an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) class.
