This is a mainstream secondary school with an additional support needs (ASN) department. Subjects such as Maths, English, Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN), Personal Social Development (PSD) and Social Subjects are taught within the department whilst other subjects including Science, Art, Physical Education (PE), Modern Languages, Technical, Home Economics, Music and Drama are taught in the wider body of the school. The ASN pupils fully participate in the life of Larkhall Academy and have their break and lunch in the same location as all other pupils. However, those who feel the need for a quieter break or lunch have access to their own dedicated break/lunch area..
