Main information

Type of service: Supported living schemes

Loch Arthur Community is a supported living community, which offers a shared way of life, and meaningful work opportunities for people with special needs in seven households and a number of workshops. There are two farms, a creamery, craft workshops, as well as the shared tasks of housework such as cooking and cleaning. The ethos of mutual care and responsibility offers a diversity of relationships and life skills, and a sense of dignity and self-respect. Dumfries shops are a short bus ride away. People are usually referred by Social Services. New referrals are usually advisable from individuals aged between 21 and 40 years, as they may find it difficult to adapt to a new way of life from 40 onwards. Most of the residents settle long-term at the community.
