Mayfield School

Devon County Council

Main information

Type of service: Day schools, Nursery and pre-schools, Schools

An all age severe learning disabilities (SLD) / profound, multiple and learning disabilities (PMLD) school with 140 pupils. Pupils are generally mixed but we provide intensive 1:1 or small group interventions for pupils as necessary. We have on site speech and language therapy support which is supplemented by our own language interventions team. Pupils learning and progress is at the heart of our purpose and we monitor that very closely. Staff use a variety of strategies linked to pupils needs ie Intensive Interaction, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), makaton and try to identify prepared learning styles. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
