Meadowside School caters for 11-19 year olds who have complex learning difficulties, which include autism, cerebral palsey, Down's syndrome, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), profound and multiple learning difficulties, severe and moderate learning diffivulties, language and communication difficulties, complex medical needs and social and emotional difficulties amongst other things. Meadowside is a small friendly school with a strong pastoral ethos, which aims to provide its students with the skills required to love fulfilling lives, as independently as possible. Learning groups are streamed for success and take into account academic abilities, learning styles and peer relations etc. Over 72% of the students at Meadowside have individualised timetables, which allow the school to further tailor what it offers to meet the needs of the individual. Meadowside School offers a Total Communication Environment which includes the extensive use of makaton as well as individualised communication methods. Meadowside School provides a holistic provision by working with a wide range of external agencies including onsite physiotherapists and nurses, CAMHS, occupational and speech therapists, and social workers amongst others. Students at Meadowside School all have statements of special educational needs (SEN) and are referred to the school through the Local Authority. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The school uses the SPELL framework.
