The service provides impartial confidential support, advice and training to parents of children with special educational needs and those at risk of exclusion; empowers parents to be able to participate and make informed decisions; helps parents to understand their rights and responsibilities; provides parents with practical support in terms of attendance at meetings, assistance in writing representations, school visits, and informal resolution of disagreements; has a range of information available in community languages and is able to link parents with local and national support groups; the Service works with schools, the Local Education Authority and other agencies to help develop positive relationships with parents and pupils and in so doing reduce exclusion and raise achievement. The service is available to support families with young people up to the age of 25 years.
