Milltown Community

Laurencekirk

Main information

Type of service: Day services, Residential services

Aims to create and maintain a home and working environment for a group of adults with additional support needs. As part of a small village in an agricultural area, Milltown residents take an active part in local cultural events and are often joined by neighbours and friends for festivals in the community. Residents have access to a large garden. In Milltown, people from the area join the residents for the Day Workshop. The different activities include refurbishing tools for 'Tools for Self-Reliance', therapeutic craftwork, vegetable gardening and jobs on the smallholding. An endeavour is made to find the right job for the right person. The resident community lives in two households, finding a balance between sharing and supporting individual needs. The Day Workshop is run by a team of employed co-ordinators, and twelve people with disabilities attend for activities each day.
