The children's home, run by Nottinghamshire County Council, is one of just 35 to achieve the top rating for three years running and features in Ofsted's recent report Outstanding Children's Homes. The 12-bed facility comprises an eight-bed residential unit and a four-bed unit for short breaks or respite care. It caters for young people with severe learning disabilities ranging in age from six to 18. Most are on the autism spectrum. Children and young people are referred to the service through their Social Worker who refers them to the Inter-Agency Panel for a decision on admission. All children and young people considered must have a core assessment and have been assessed as having a severe learning disability combined with challenging and difficult behaviours. Staff receive training in Intensive interaction and sensory modulation enabling them to complete a sensory plan for those young people who will benefit. A choice of in-house activities are delivered such as painting, computer games, videos, interactive sensory rooms, music shack, swimming pools and sensory garden. There are opportunities for trips out to theatres, concerts, cinema, football matches and a host of other exciting experiences.
