The National Deaf Mental Health Service provides a mental health service for people who are deaf. Its care is for people who are primarily profoundly deaf, sign language users. The service covers roughly a third of the country (see coverage special note for more details) and works with other services in a multidisciplinary way. There is a 12 bedded inpatient service but most work is in the community or in a number of outpatient clinics across the country.

Assessment procedure: Initial 2 assessments involving 2 or more members of the multidisciplinary team. Can be seen at the unit, at home or other clinical setting as appropriate.

Follow up service: Outpatient clinics in Birmingham and other centres, community/home visits and joint work with local services.

Multi-disciplinary assessment: Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, C.P.N and inpatient Nursing staff.
