Newfield School is a special school situated in Blackburn and maintained by Blackburn with Darwen Local Authority. The students have a wide range of special needs and range between the ages of 2 and 19 years. The school incorporates an Autism Resource Centre which consists of 6 class bases. These classes have a high staff to pupil ratio and strategies such as Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children (TEACCH), structured teaching and visual communication are employed extensively in the classes. Staff receive specialist training to support pupils' autism needs. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
