The name of the unit for children with communication and social difficulties is the Communication Resource Base. The Communication Resource Base is Local Authority (LA) resourced provision for students with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and with communication difficulties. The resource base is included within a mainstream high school. Students are taught both within the Resource Base and within mainstream lessons. Students receive in class support and have access to a social skills curriculum, delivered by speech and language therapists who work in the Communication Resource Base on a 0.5 basis. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework.
