Oak Lodge School is a special school with 143 pupils (55% on the autism spectrum). All pupils have a SEN statement and placed by their local authority. The Oakmore Centre, a dedicated autism spectrum unit, for 15 pupils with high functioning autism or Asperger syndrome of average ability, unable to access mainstream on a full time basis due to anxiety or sensory processing difficulties, isan integral part of Oak Lodge. Oakmore pupils are offered individualised programmes across Oak Lodge and Applemore College, mainstream school sharing the campus. Principles of TEACCH are incorporated across the school, offering high levels of structure and visual support and emphasis on developing communication, social and independence skills. A specialist Arts College, there is a a strong focus on developing skills through the Arts: drama, music, art, textiles, by proactive engagement through projects in the local community (Salisbury Playhouse, The Lighthouse Theatre, dance companies, musicians, local bands, artists, poets and writers) visits to local and national museums, art galleries and theatres. Pupils are taught by subject specialist staff in small classes with LSA support with the vast majority achieveing 8+ formal qualifications at GCSE, BTEC or entry level (English, Maths, Science, ICT, Art, Textiles, Food Technology, Performing Arts, DT, PE, PSD, AOPE, COPE, Food Hygiene, Sports Leader and Arts Award). We also offer a range of extracurricular and residential activities.
