Open Door is a one stop shop providing medical, health and social care to people living in North East Lincolnshire. The Asperger syndrome and High Functioning Autism Outreach Support and Development Service provides support to those over the age of sixteen. It is funded by the local Care Trust and as such is free at the point of delivery. The overall aim of the Service is to enable individuals with High Functioning Autism or Asperger syndrome to achieve fulfilment and independence in daily living in a way that is meaningful to them. If you have Asperger syndrome or High Functioning Autism (or you believe you may have these conditions) and you would like help to live a happier and more fulfilling life, then Open Door's dedicated and trained team of staff and volunteers will work with you to agree a package of support that is designed to meet your assessed and identified needs and aspirations. Support plans will be geared towards reducing your levels of anxiety by helping you to develop appropriate coping strategies and more effective communication and social skills. Your family and friends will be included (where appropriate and with your permission), in developing plans with you in order to achieve consistency of approach which will help you to make more progress. Staff will support you within your home environment, school or college, workplace or the wider community to enable you to achieve your planned objectives and goals. This approach will facilitate your development of self-confidence and enhanced self-esteem and enable you to interact with the wider community more comfortably. The more confident you become, the more you begin to realise your value as a person, the more likely it will be that you will achieve your aspirations and move towards independence. Referrals for this service are accepted from service users (self-referrals) and also family members/carers and professionals (with the service user's permission).
