Our Lady and St Bede RC Secondary School

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

Main information

Type of service: Day schools, Schools

The name of the unit for pupils with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the Centre of Excellence. We are a mainstream secondary school with an ASD Centre of Excellence unit. Pupils work both in mainstream classes with support or in the unit with other ASD pupils. Some pupils may spend only their breaks, lunchtimes and form times in the base, but the majority do spend some time in the unit during lessons, getting one to one support or working in small groups with other pupils with ASD. Every child is treated as an individual and their needs taken into account. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework occasionally. We are a Catholic School although pupils in the unit do not need to be Catholic.
