The name of the unit for children with special needs is the Learning Support Faculty. Prestatyn High School (PHS) is a large mainstream secondary school but we strive to be an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) inclusive school. Prestatyn High School is committed to the inclusion of students with additional learning needs, including those with ASD. The Learning Support Faculty has trained staff who use a variety of methods to support these students. These strategies are designed so that the students can access a wide and balanced curriculum in all subject areas right through to 6th form. Strategies we use: Teaching Assistant (TA) support, multi-agency work, circle of friends and before school, break and lunchtime club. PHS is a mainstream secondary school that would endeavour to support any need a student had. Specifically trained staff: teachers and TAs support students with: social stories; feelings scales; social and communication work; extended transition procedures: primary to secondary, Key Stage 4 (KS4) - KS4, KS4 - KS5; whole school staff training; and exam provision. KS4 curriculum: designed around the needs of students with additional learning needs (ALN) including ASD: key skills; and personal skills award - ASDAN. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils with full Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and under guidance.
