Main information

Type of service: Family support and information services, Parent partnerships, Parent partnerships

This is Greenwich Special Educational Needs and Disability Information Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) (formerly Greenwich Parent Partnership Service). Children and young people up to 25 years with special educational needs and disabilities - as well as their parents and carers - can access free and impartial information, advice and support. The service is called the Royal Greenwich Special Educational Needs and Disability Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS): supporting and empowering parents. SENDIASS staff support good working relationships between parents, early years and education settings and the local authority, empowering parents to play an active and informed role in their child's learning. SENDIASS staff can: give help and advice over the phone; give practical support, such as help filling in forms and letter writing; help parents to understand the assessment process; help with meetings at school; provide support in annual reviews; help parents to draw up a profile of their child; signpost parents to other statutory and voluntary sector agencies and support groups including Greenwich Parent Voice, an independent group of parents in Greenwich (who all have children with special educational needs or a disability); and link parents, carers and young people to Independent Supporters. Drop-in advice sessions: Royal Greenwich SENDIASS offers drop-in sessions at children's centres across the borough. You do not need to make an appointment but consultations are limited to approximately 15 minutes. Contact Families Information and Outreach Service (FIOS) helpline for more information about future sessions. Independent Supporters: To support parents, carers, children and young people undergoing assessment for an Education, Health and Care plan (EHC Plan) or if transferring from a Statement of Special Educational Needs, we can offer access to an Independent Supporter. Independent Supporters are being trained with Greenwich Association of Disabled People (GAD).
