Main information

Type of service: Further & Higher Education

The Lodge, (learning opportunity for development and guided education), is a provision at South Devon College for learners with a diagnosis of autism spectrum condition (ASC). Collaborative working practice with local schools enables us to implement bespoke transitions for ASC learners. The building of trusting relationships with parents and carers is also of paramount importance to us and is instrumental in enabling us to meet the needs of our learners. Applicants are assessed to establish whether the Lodge provision will meet their needs while they undertake a mainstream course. The Lodge provides a calm, quiet environment, fully staffed by specifically trained support staff who provide learners with both pastoral and academic support. Personal and social development lessons, tailored to meet individual's needs are also delivered to small groups of ASC learners, alongside their mainstream courses, where possible. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the students.
