St Vincent’s School is a non-maintained day and residential school for pupils aged 4-19 years with a sensory impairment and other needs. Pupils enjoy full access to the National Curriculum and perhaps more importantly a personalised extended/additional curriculum, to ensures that their needs are met. All pupils are taught in small class sizes of mixed ability and need. Each class has a minimum of one teacher and one learning support assistant to maximum of six pupils. The school has its own mobility officers providing individual mobility and orientation sessions for pupils. OfSTED 2008 education and care report found the school to be ‘outstanding’ as did the Care Inspections in 2010 and 2011.Our aim is to enable every child or young person to achieve their full potential and a level of effective communication, social competence and personal independence. To achieve this students receive an individually modified and appropriate approach to their learning needs. Challenge, enjoyment and personalisation are important principles for all learners at St Vincent’s. Application for admission is generally made by the Local Authority. However, parents are welcome to contact the school directly. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. All volunteers working alongside pupils are CRB checked and work with a member of staff at all times. Provide outreach for pupils with visual impairment and an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), mobility services and training.
