Staffordshire County Council

Main information

Type of service: Nursery and pre-schools, Outreach - education

Portage is a home-visiting educational service for pre-school children with additional support needs and their families. Portage is a home based teaching service provided by the County Council in partnership with the Health Service for pre-school children with special educational needs, where parents work in partnership with a Portage Worker to help their child. Although most of the work of the service takes place with the family in the home, Portage staff will liaise closely with the child's early years setting or school. The Portage Team in the county is funded by the County Council Education Service with additional support from Health Authorities. They offer home visits with children whose parents need support in their own home with pre school children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
