Starting Point Plus is a free non means tested prevention service, telephone help and advice line for people aged 50 and over, or under 50 with a disability. Wigan Council no longer provide support to people with low to moderate needs, therefore Starting Point Plus at Age UK Wigan Borough has been contracted by Wigan Council to provide a telephone helpline for those people who fall into that category of need.
Many services are available through Starting Point Plus. All tradespeople are accessed through Wigan Council's "Good Trader Scheme", from roofers to plumbers, gardeners, decorators and many more. Some of the other services Starting Point Plus refer to are handyperson, insurance, advocacy, support at home, care homes admissions, information and advice including benefit checks, housing and care options service, liaison service to access domiciliary agencies, and many more. Starting Point Plus can also support with research into funding to purchase wheelchairs, profile beds etc. The referral procedure is via telephone.
