Stepping Stone Project

Cambridge

Main information

Type of service: Outreach, Play and leisure

The Stepping Stone Project aims to help anyone aged 14+ who has a disability or a long term physical, sensory or health need to get involved with sport as a participant, coach, volunteer or administrator. It works on a self-referral basis, so anyone can call and access the help. Service users do not need to be in receipt of any social care funding. Service users' needs will be assessed and a suitable club found for them. If necessary, funds can be allocated to help pay for a club membership or equipment required. Everything is done on an individual basis, however the aim is to have the person attending a sports club on a regular basis and progressing within the sport. The Project is also able to fund training for Clubs when required in order that they can accommodate individuals e.g. behaviour support, autism awareness, makaton etc. Volunteers may be accepted to work with service users.
