Main information

Type of service: Residential schools, Schools

Swalcliffe Park is a non-maintained residential day and day school for boys aged 10 -19 years who are on the autism spectrum. Students are of broadly average ability and may have additional needs such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and speech language and communication difficulties. We work with LAs from across the country and accept referrals at all ages.

At Swalcliffe we have developed a ‘Quality of Life’ framework and approach to improving outcomes for our students, which involves finding out about their personal strengths and difficulties, as well as their hopes and aspirations so that we can help prepare them for adulthood. We use this information to plan our support for each student in 4 key areas, namely:

    • Communication
    • Self-Management
    • Independence and
    • Achievement

We also believe it is critical to work closely with families, so our ‘Quality of Life’ approach also includes finding out the impact of autism on family life, about what they would like to do but currently can’t and about what is important to them. We listen to what they tell us and try to find ways to help.

Student achievement and development is supported by a multi-disciplinary team including teachers, therapists (OT, SaLT, CP) residential care staff and learning support assistants. Our curriculum offer includes a range of external accreditation including GCSE, ‘A’ Level, BTEC and Functional Skills as well as D of E. We also have strong links with a local high school, a further education college and a wide range of work experience providers.
