The school's designation changed in September 2009 to be the City's identified school for pupils with a diagnosis of autism spectrum conditions (ASCs). Pupils must have a diagnosis of Autism and an EHCP to attend here. Currently, 154 pupils are on role at Tettenhall Wood School.
The school achieved Specialist School Status in Communication and Interaction in September 2010.
In November 2021, Tettenhall Wood school linked up with the Amethyst Trust. This consists of two mainstream secondary schools and another special school.
In May 2022, Tettenhall Wood School gained the NAS Autism Accreditation Award at Advanced status.
In Sept 2022, the Tettenhall Wood school opened a hub on one of the mainstream secondary schools site so that the most able pupils could access the range of facilities and specialist teachers available there,
