The Beeches is a very large two-storey Victorian property with accommodation for eight children with learning difficulties. The home is situated in the heart of England in Peterborough. Easy access is offered to London and the South East, The Midlands, East Anglia and The North. Registered under the Care Standards Act 2000 as a children's home, residential care is provided and since September 2012 education is availabe on site in The Beeches School. The aim of The Beeches is to provide a warm, supportive and stimulating environment where young people can feel comfortable in expressing their needs from a developmental perspective. These needs can then be integrated within their own bespoke care and educational plan. To achieve this aim, each individual's learning potential is nurtured and goal orientated meaningful tasks incorporated, matched with abilities and designed to increase self-awareness and self-esteem. The home has been designed to exude the atmosphere of a family environment and is child orientated. Such an environment has been provided to enable the young people who enter into care to grow into happy, well rounded and emotionally secure individuals. Staff are chosen and trained to provide excellent care and develop a sense of community and belonging within The Beeches "extended family". The Beeches hope to inspire children with positive attitudes about themselves, which in the long run will give them the confidence to deal with their disabilities. The introduction of its own school on site enables The Beeches to offer an holistic approach to the care and development of those in their care. The children and young people using this service would be referred by Social Services; volunteers may be available to work with service users; and, school room are an addition to facilities available.
