The Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School

Main information

Type of service: Day schools, Outreach - education, Schools

The Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School serves the Hereford Diocese and the local community. The school is a dual specialist college for science, mathematics and technology and languages. It aims to provide a broad and balanced Christian education of the highest quality for all pupils. The curriculum allows for differences in the abilities and characteristics of the pupils. The Kielder Centre caters for pupils with moderate learning difficulties and the school is fully accessible to pupils with physical disabilities. The school is also resourced to meet the needs of pupils with a visual impairment. The house system and extensive extra curricular programme ensure that the needs of the whole child are catered for. The Bridge is a designated centre within the school for pupils with autism. Pupils spend some of their time in a purpose-built provision. They follow an individual programme, joining mainstream or Kielder classes for some aspects of the curriculum. Places to the Bridge are allocated by the Local Authority, in accordance with specific entry criteria. Other pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) attending the school are supported within mainstream or the Kielder Centre classes according to need. All pupils are allocated to a mixed ability form and participate in all aspects of school life. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils and must be CRB checked. We adopt an eclectic approach which incorporates several aspects of the SPELL framework.
