The Centre for Students with Complex Communication Difficulties (CCD) is a specialist provision for secondary aged students with complex communication difficulties. Complex communication difficulties include a range of severe language and communication disorders: these may affect the students' ability to participate in lessons and their ability to make sense of social relationships. Specialist staff, including a speech and language therapist, meet the needs of the students. All students have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Each IEP specifies the appropriate balance of specialist and mainstream teaching and is regularly reviewed to maximise the opportunities for students' social and academic progress. When in mainstream lessons, students are supported by a specialist teacher or teaching assistant. Some subjects are taught at the Centre. Materials are differentiated in response to the student's individual learning needs. The social use of language programme is delivered to provide the students with the strategies they need to help them cope with everyday social situations. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The other providers of the school are Academy sponsors.
