Main information

Type of service: Holidays

The Bruce Trust is a registered charity which provides specially-designed, purpose-built, wide-beam canal boats on the Kennet and Avon Canal for hire. They are appropriate for self catering holidays by disabled, disadvantaged or elderly people and their carers. The Kennet and Avon canal runs through Berkshire and Wiltshire, from the River Thames at Reading to the River Avon at Bath. The Trust has a fleet of four hire boats. Two have a capacity of 12 each, one accommodates ten people and the fourth boat sleeps six. Three boats operate from Great Bedwyn, near Marlborough. They are situated to cruise towards Newbury and Reading or westward to Devizes and down the Caen Hill Fight. One boat is based at Lower Foxhangers wharf, near Devizes, and is placed for cruises westward to Bath. Training courses are available for people new to boating. All the boats have lifts, transfer hoists, specially equipped bathrooms and two can be fitted with joystick assisted steering.
