The Inclusion Project, Bradford

Bradford Metropolitan District Council

Main information

Type of service: Social groups

The Inclusion Project runs a number of after-school and evening clubs for young people with autism and Asperger syndrome aged between 11 and 18. The groups are held in Addingham, near Ilkley and in Thornton and Idle in Bradford. Young people have access to a number of activities in a non-challenging environment and are assisted to develop on a personal and individual basis. The groups are run by paid staff who are assisted by some volunteers. Parents are asked to drop their children off as no transport is provided for the group. The group has developed simple and clear group rules within which they operate with the co-operation and agreement of the young people themselves. The young people also decide what future activities they participate in.
