Wac Arts Interactive

London

Main information

Type of service: Play and leisure

This three-year project, funded by BBC Children in Need, aims to work with young people from across the UK aged 12-18 years with mild/moderate disabilities at risk of isolation, using technology to enhance communication and independence skills whilst enabling opportunities to form friendships and have fun. Young people will steer the project and alongside on site term time, outreach and holiday workshops focusing on cutting edge assistive and inclusive technology, students will be empowered to become peer mentors and trainers, sharing and transferring the knowledge they acquire to young people and staff at organisations nationwide via online networking and external visits. Wac Arts have established links with many charities and youth clubs around the British Isles and have trips planned to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to host creative workshops and training sessions, empowering these organisations to roll out their own training programmes. The performing arts and media workshops will include filmmaking, radio production, television production, 3D printing, app development, stop motion animation, 3D filming, computer animation/graphics/games, music technology and plenty more. We wish to enable the young people involved to stay at the forefront of the ever-changing world of technological innovation, preparing them for work and further education choices as young adults. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the service users.
