Formerly called "Walsall Parent Partnership Service" the overall aim of the Information, Advice and Support Service is to provide a menu of flexible services for parents whose children have special educational needs (SEN) in order to empower them to play an active and informed role in their child's education. This includes access to an Independent Parental Supporter for those parents who want one. Walsall's IAS Service is expected to: provide practical support in discussions with schools, Education Walsall and other statutory agencies; provide accurate neutral information on rights, roles and responsibilities within the SEN process; inform about other statutory agencies and voluntary organisations, which can offer information and advice; ensure that the ascertainable views and wishes of the child are sought and taken into consideration; provide a range of flexible services; provide a disagreement resolution service; provide neutral, accurate information on all SEN procedures; interpret information published by schools, Education Walsall and other bodies; make available a wide range of information in community languages and other non conventional means; make available advice on SEN procedures; recruit sufficient Independent Parental Supporters; make available, training on good communication and relationships with parents; work with schools, Education Walsall and other agencies; establish and maintain links with voluntary organisations; and ensure parents views are heard and understood.
