Main information

Type of service: Counsellor

This service makes provision of therapeutic alternatives to people who may require a more flexible approach; helping them to relate better with their environment and the people around them. It focuses on finding ways for clients to reduce their anxiety and build self-esteem; I work with some individuals who are going through the process of diagnosis as well as those who may simply require support to manage certain aspects of their lives more effectively and have no wish to seek diagnosis. I also offer support to spouses, parents and family members, who can at times require help to improve relationships with their loved ones and learn to communicate more effectively. I work in a calm peaceful setting, with soft lighting and comfortable seating which can be easily adjusted if clients prefer to sit in parallel rather than facing their counsellor. I also offer walking therapies for those who find the counselling room too intense. The multi-sensory experience of being outdoors can aid creative thinking and help clients to achieve notable shifts in their thought processes. For some clients walking in parallel with nature's visual distractions can help them to speak more freely when striving to resolve some of the challenges they are facing. I have many years of personal and professional experience of Asperger syndrome and autism and aim to creative an atmosphere of trust, enabling her clients to feel welcome and relaxed. I have an understanding of autism spectrum conditions (ASCs) and give clients the knowledge they will be understood and respected. As well as individual therapy, I also offer couples counselling and am professionally trained in supporting relationships where one or both partners are affected by Asperger syndrome. I have delivered professional development training to counsellors in order to help them develop working practices which are better suited to clients with ASCs. I am a Relational Counsellor/Psychotherapist with a specialism in autistic spectrum counselling. Counselling approaches offered by the service are: cognitive behavioural therapy, integrative, psychodynamic, solution focused and relational approach.
