The name of the unit for children with special needs is Y Canol. Y Canol is a resourced provision for children with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and / or profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), some of whom have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The provision is part of the mainstream primary school. Every pupil has an individually tailored needs driven package of inclusion with mainstream peers. There are three classroom bases in Y Canol and a wealth of specialist facilities. Pupils with autism are included in mixed groups within Y Canol. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils and all volunteers are police checked and vetted.
