Autism West Midlands aims to improve the quality of life for people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and their families by raising awareness of the condition and making provision for the individual needs of people with ASD. Current services include a school for residential and day pupils, residential services for adults, supported living and employment support for adults with Asperger syndrome, family support, an information help-line, and the provision of training for staff, parents and professionals. Autism West Midlands have established a large membership across the region. We have a vibrant learning and professional development department (LPD). Our LPD Officers are all qualified and experienced in working in the field across different professions. We also maintain a "hands on" approach by working within our own services as well as delivering training. We run one day courses on ASD awareness geared towards the needs of those attending. We run a range of extended days that include a focus on the following areas: ASD and sensory issues, ASD and communication, ASD and behaviour, ASD and social interaction, sexuality, relationships and ASD, and ASD and mental health issues. We work cooperatively with individuals who have an ASD and who make contributions to the planning and delivery of our training. Training is delivered "in house" or at a variety of venues across the West Midlands.
