Main information

Type of service: Residential services

Ellsworth House in Midsomer Norton, Somerset provides a residential service for adults with learning disabilities, complex needs and behaviours which others may find challenging. With a homely, friendly feel the team are caring and supportive and very creative in how they support the people that live there.

Set in lovely grounds laid to lawn, the main building is a modern style, spread across three floors and supports five people. There is an adjoining annex and a separate bungalow within the grounds both of which are suitable for individuals who require a self-contained setting to meet their specific needs.

The focus is very much on inclusion, building friendships and enjoying interests. Individuals are involved in monthly residents meetings and recruitment and are actively involved in the running of the home.

They are supported to live as independently as possible by developing their daily living skills such as washing and shopping and often enjoy cooking for others. They are supported in managing their finances and making daily decisions about their life and their choices.

There are lots of activities at the home such as fetes, coffee mornings and celebratory events where family members are always welcome. Individual’s support plans detail their preferred activities and they are supported to make full use of nearby amenities in Midsomer Norton such as the local sports centre and gym.

Some people also enjoy local work opportunities and attend college which helps develop confidence and self-esteem. Transport is also available on site and some individuals have their own transport.
