Newlands Cottages

Consensus Support

Main information

Type of service: Residential services

Newlands Cottages is a quaint, homely cottage located just outside Caterham on the Croydon and Surrey borders, supporting individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs, including epilepsy. Some people may also display behaviours which others might find challenging.

This residential service has recently been adapted and refurbished to meet the unique needs of the individuals who live there. The ground floor consists of two self-contained flats, one of which has recently been refurbished to provide one of the bedrooms with a kitchen, living area and en-suite bathroom. The first floor now has two en-suite bedrooms with shared living/lounge area, and where the two individuals will have their own kitchen and dining area on the ground floor.

The service has a caring, nurturing environment where the dedicated team take a person-centred approach to the support they provide. Support is tailored to individual’s needs and the goals they wish to achieve as well as helping people to lead a fulfilling life as part of their local community.

There are plenty of leisure and social opportunities in nearby Purley and Croydon and individuals enjoy bowling, cycling, the cinema, theatre and local fair. The support team often go the extra mile to escort individuals to live concerts or do something really special for them. There are good transport links nearby and also transport on site to help people get out and about and enjoy life. Some people attend local colleges to learn new skills and undertake Asdan qualifications and work experience opportunities are also encouraged.

We place great importance on helping people learn new skills and take on responsibilities to help run the home. This helps improve confidence with daily living skills and provides greater independence. We update support plans with individuals to ensure plans maximise their choices and opportunities.
